In August of 2001, Boone Central Middle School opened its doors to all of the seventh and eighth graders in the district. Then in 2004, all of the sixth graders joined the seventh and eighth graders, making Boone Central Middle School the home of all the sixth through eighth graders in the district. Approximately 120 students attend Boone Central Middle School. Ten full-time and four part-time highly qualified instructors, three para-professionals, a full-time principal and an administrative assistant also serve the needs of the students and parents. A registered nurse is on duty from 8:30 - 10 a.m. each day, with trained staff available the rest of the time.
The curriculum includes classes in literature, language, math (including pre-algebra and Algebra 1), social studies, and science. In addition to the core subject areas, students explore the following nine-week's classes throughout their three years in the middle school: tech science, computers, art, family and consumer science, Spanish, enrichment science, video editing, and media skills. All sixth graders must take chorus and PE, with band being optional, while seventh and eighth graders must take PE and either band or chorus.
An eight-minute homeroom time at beginning of the day allows students to bond with an adult, complete homework, and get organized. Classes are 44 minutes long, with three-minute passing periods, and a 30-minute lunch break. Breakfast and lunch are served daily. Buses transport students from Albion each morning and transport students home when school and activities are completed.
Boone Central Middle School houses a long-distance learning classroom. This classroom allows students and community members to be connected to 11 other area schools. Northeast Community College in Norfolk, NE, and Wayne State College in Wayne, NE, as well as Boone Central High School in Albion, NE. The system is mainly used to provide opportunities for college classes and in-service/seminars for teachers and staff at Boone Central campuses. It is also available for the general public to use during the evenings or on Saturdays.
All elementary-age students (pre-school through fifth grade) attend Boone Central Elementary School in Albion. Once again, a bus transports these students, as well as any high school-age students, to Albion in the morning and back to Petersburg in the afternoon.
At Boone Central Middle School, teachers and administrators are committed to helping all students achieve success. A favorable pupil/teacher ratio helps promote quality education and learning. Technologies are utilized to enrich student performance. Fiber optics provides high speed Internet to our wireless building. A progressive Board of Education is constantly working to prepare students for the future.
